Höganäs Keramik was founded in 1909 as Andersson & Johansson's Pottery Factory by glazier Sigfrid Johansson and master turner Karl Andersson. Production began with earthenware in modest forms, expanding through the 1920s when the factory acquired premises from Höganäs AB after that company shifted entirely to stoneware. Höganäs Keramik itself moved into stoneware during the 1930s, introducing its first collections and making refractory goods including ashtrays with red glaze. The business was incorporated as a limited company in 1948, and the range increasingly included moulds, pots and pans alongside tableware. The factory worked with designers including John Andersson, Signe Persson-Melin and Hertha Bengtsson, and launched the Old Höganäs series inspired by light lead-glazed wares from Höganäsbolaget. Höganäs Keramik now operates as part of the Iittala Group, which also includes BodaNova, Rörstrand and Iittala, producing stoneware, cutlery, glass, serving products and porcelain tableware.
