"Le Antichità Romane, ossia Raccolta delle più interessanti vedute di Roma antica" is a famous monumental copperplate engraving work created by the Ravenna-born architect and engraver Luigi Rossini. Published definitively in 1829 in Rome (with plates produced mainly between 1819 and 1823), the collection comprises 101 splendid plates etched. Etching on heavyweight, watermark-free paper, in black and white. Excellent inking and good condition, slight traces of foxing, browning, and signs of binding (editorial tailpiece), insignificant watermarks, and margins at the lower and upper edges absent as in the photo. Insured shipping via Bartolini/DPD courier. To use the insurance coverage, any damage to the spine must be contested and reported to the courier at the time of delivery. Luigi Rossini (Ravenna, December 15, 1790 – Rome, April 22, 1857) was an Italian engraver, commonly regarded as the heir of Piranesi. He assisted Canova with drawings for the temple of Possagno, but soon devoted himself to engraving, gaining wide fame with various series of landscapes, Roman and Southern Italian scenes, and ancient monuments (pub. 1817-39); many of his plates are preserved in the National Engraving Museum (Calcografia Nazionale) in Rome.
