Yrjö Edelmann

Colour lithograph, 2003, signed 1023/1500. Yrjö Edelmann is a Finnish/Swedish visual artist born in Helsinki. Edelmann studied at the Arts Academy in Stockholm. Early in his career, the artist was an illustrator for comic books and book covers. Ever since his artistic debut in his 30s, Edelmann has worked with oil and graphics. Edelmann has, among other places, exhibited in New York, Tokyo, and Paris. His paintings are illusionistic with a light colour scheme influenced by American photorealism. He is known for his very distinctive trompe-l'œil motifs, where his superrealistic motifs with crumbled paper, envelopes, and tissues have gained international acclaim. He made his debut in 1973.
