Edvin Öhrström, a pair of 'Egyptian' candlesticks, Svenskt Tenn, Stockholm, 2001. Pewter with a brass base. Stamped. Height 30 cm. Wear. Minor dents. The model designed in 1928. Edvin Öhrström (1906-1994) was a Swedish visual artist, sculptor and glass artist born in Burlöv. He studied at the Art Academy and Tekniska Skolan in Stockholm and under Fernand Léger in Paris, among others. From 1936-1957 he was active at Orrefors glassworks. Together with Vicke Lindstrand, Öhrström helped develop ariel glass, an innovative technology that was presented at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1937 and for which Orrefors has become internationally known. Öhrström also designed cast glass for Lindshammar's glassworks and created the work "Kristallvertikalaccent", a glass pillar at Sergels Torg in Stockholm, inaugurated in 1974. Today, the early ariel glass pieces from Orrefors are among the most sought-after glass produced in Sweden.
