Rectangular white-lacquered cabinet on mahogany stand, straight legs with partially beveled edges, two doors painted with summer flowers, monogram signed in one of the stems EC (Erik Chambert), hand-painted floral decoration personally executed by Erik Chambert, interior with two movable shelves. Swedish Modern style from the 1940s. The cabinet features a unique painted decoration of Swedish summer flowers in oil paint, hand-executed by the designer himself. Provenance: Master Builder Birger Andersson, Norrköping. Erik Chambert (1902-1988) was a versatile designer, furniture and interior architect whose expressive style has been described as "human functionalism." Son of master carpenter Axel Chambert, he started working in the family's furniture factory at age 16. He studied at Högre konstindustriella skolan (now Konstfack) in Stockholm and traveled extensively to Italy, England, France, and Germany, encountering Bauhaus thinking and Art Concret. His major debut was at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, which earned him acclaim from Gregor Paulsson. While his 1930s furniture embraced functionalist ideals, Chambert always prioritized craftsmanship over mass production. During the 1940s, he began using cabinets as artistic canvases, creating lush floral meadows with oil paint, combining his skills as both furniture designer and recognized visual artist.
